I was born in Lefkosia in 1977. I graduated from the English School in 1996. Upon completion of my military commitments, I emigrated to the UK to study medicine. I graduated from Leicester – Warwick Medical School in 2004 with merit and completed my orthopaedic training in West Midlands, on the Warwick Orthopaedic Training Programme. I completed further, advanced training at Oxford, a centre of excellence in orthopaedic research. I became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Trauma and Orthopaedics in February 2013 and obtained my GMC certification of completion of training (CCT) in September of 2014.
During my training I developed an interest in lower limb arthroplasty, with particular emphasis on hip pain, in all age groups. I manage hip and knee pain both surgically and non- surgicallyaiming to preserve the natural joint wherever possible.
I am working as a Consultant Orthopeadic Surgeon at Heart Of England NHS Foundation Trust since 2014. In 2015, I was appointed as the Associate Clinical Director for Heart Of England NHS Trust. In my role I am developing new pathways and policies that aim to make the department more modern, and efficient so that it can provide an excellent standard of care for the local population.
I am a high volume arthroplasty surgeon, performing in excess of 100 hip and 100 knee replacements a year.
I perform minimally invasive hip surgery, utilising a new approach, (direct superior approach). This approach spares all the muscles that are essential for normal gait, which means that the rehabilitation can be faster and the chances of developing abnormal gait (Trendelenburg gait) are significantly reduced. This in conjunction with a small scar, improves satisfaction, speeds up return to baseline activity and reduces the length of stay in hospital.
In addition to primary hip and knee replacements, I perform complex revisions of old hip replacements for various reasons (infection, failure, fractures) which are referred to my team by my colleagues locally as well as regionally.
I strongly believe in evidence based medicine. I read and research into my fields of interest continuously. I have more than 10 publications in scientific orthopaedic journals (peer reviewed) on my field of interest (hip and knee replacement and trauma around them).
